THE ETHOS
Named after Datin
Paduka Seri Endon Mahmood, the wife of the
fifth Prime Minister of Malaysia, the Piala
Seri Endon has been conceived to discover,
and to provide a platform for support, recognition
and encouragement of Malaysia's Batik-making
talent.
It is an annual event
that is open only to Malaysians and is part
of the Malaysia Batik – Crafted For
the World movement, Datin Paduka Seri’s
brainchild.

THE COMPETITION
Batik - Inspirasi
Ku
The theme for this nationwide competition
has been chosen to allow for maximum freedom
in creative expression.
COMPETITION
CATEGORIES
In line with the movement’s
aim to widen the scope and use of batik,
since 2003, the organisers have added one
category a year to this competition.
• Fashion category – the only
category in 2003
• Soft Furnishing category –
launched in 2004
• Handicrafts category – added
to the line up in 2005
THE TROPHY
The intricate design
of the trophy represents a hand-block –
which is used in the making of Batik. Made
of exotic timber and highly polished pewter,
the trophy is 18 inches (approx 460mm) high
and 6.5 kg in weight.
The original Challenge
Trophy will be kept by the organisers for
use in this annual event. Names of winners
of the trophy will be engraved on the respective
plaques on the back of the trophy. Winners
will be given a smaller replica weighing
2 kg, while consolation prize winners will
receive a 1.5 kg replica.

THE ORGANISERS
As with all the events
of the Malaysia Batik - Crafted For the
World movement, the Piala Seri Endon is
co-organised and co-managed by Yayasan Budi
Penyayang Malaysia, a foundation of which
Datin Paduka Seri is Chairman; and Batik
Guild Sdn Bhd, which has been specially
established to carry out the work of this
movement.
